New Wind Farms for Pakil and Mabitac, Lucio Tan Interested

Alternergy Wind One Corp., the company behind the windmills in Pililla, Rizal, is looking to put up new wind farms. Two towns in Laguna, namely Pakil and Mabitac, are being eyed as the site for this new project, and will be done under a new company - Alternergy Sembrano Wind Corp. According to Alternergy Philippines Holdings Corp. Chariman Vince Perez, Alternergy has been in contact with LT Group, Inc. about a stake in the upcoming wind farm project. LT Group Inc., is the holding company of business tycoon Lucio Tan, known for several popular brands in the Philippines including Philippine Airlines and Tanduay Distillers. The windmills in Pililla generate up to 54 megawatts (MW), costing nearly $154 million. The wind farms planned for Pakil and Mabitac are expected to generate 72-MW of electricity. Based on this, the new project will be estimated at a cost of $193 million. Wind is a much cleaner alternative source of energy compared to more common ones used around the world.
